Some Good News and Bad News about Samsung Galaxy S8

SAMSUNG has announced some good news – and some very bad news – for Galaxy S8 owners. Here's everything you need to know.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is hugely popular.

Pre-orders for the latest flagship Samsung handset were 30 per cent higher than those for Galaxy S7 last year, the South Korean technology company has confirmed.

However, some Galaxy S8 owners have noticed issues with the new handset.

Some customers who pre-ordered the handset, and received it ahead of the worldwide release date, have noticed an issue with the new Infinity Display.

A number of early adopters have complained about a "red tint" to the screen.

The tinge is most noticeable on uniform white screens, like the settings menu, according to those with affected handsets.

Photos of Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones with a red hue to the display have flooded onto social media sites Twitter and Instagram.

In South Korea, "Galaxy S8 Red Screen" started to trend on the county's search engine, Naver, within days of the first handsets landing in the hands of customers.

That's not ideal, however Samsung has confirmed the issue – and offered a fix.

Samsung confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that there is no hardware defect with the display, and that any red-tint can be fixed with software.

The technology company has announced plans to roll-out a new software update for the phone that will allow users more granular controls over the display’s appearance.

This software update should resolve any frustrations with the display, Samsung told The Wall Street Journal.

When the software is ready, customers will be asked to install the update via the Settings menu.

Speaking to Wired Magazine, a spokesperson for Samsung added: "The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with Super AMOLED display to provide rich colours with high sharpness and contrast.

"In the past, we have received feedback that consumers wanted the ability to customise the colour setting of their Galaxy devices due to natural variations in displays, and we provided the option to do so in previous software updates.

"While the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have the ability for the user to modify the colour of the display, Samsung has listened to feedback and has decided to release a software update starting from this week which will provide customers with a further enhanced ability to adjust the colour setting to their preference."

Samsung also hopes to resolve some Wi-Fi issues that Galaxy S8 owners in the Korean market have experienced.
